Teams Sense presence
Polls Microsoft Graph for Teams presence and work location, then applies configured mappings and status-protection rules.
Staff Glance Solutions
Staff Glance works as a standalone employee availability board. Organizations using Microsoft 365 can separately configure Teams presence polling, Microsoft Entra ID sign-in, Calendar Snapshot, and an optional Staff Glance personal app for Teams.
The Staff Glance web application, in/out board, employee roster, and manual status updates do not require Microsoft Teams. Microsoft capabilities are optional enhancements for organizations that choose to configure them.
This distinction matters because “Microsoft integration” is not one switch. Teams Sense, Entra ID SSO, Calendar Snapshot, and the Teams App solve different problems and have different prerequisites.
Polls Microsoft Graph for Teams presence and work location, then applies configured mappings and status-protection rules.
Lets employees sign in through your organization's configured Microsoft sign-in.
When its Microsoft integration and Staff Glance feature setting are configured, it fetches an authorized colleague's seven-day availability from Microsoft Graph on demand. It does not continuously synchronize or store event data.
Opens the hosted Staff Glance board as a personal tab inside Teams. It remains the same Staff Glance application, not a replacement website.
When Teams Sense is enabled, Staff Glance polls Microsoft Graph on a schedule. The default interval is about 60 seconds and the supported configured range is 30 seconds to 5 minutes. After applicable status mappings and synchronization rules are applied, detected changes appear on the Staff Glance board.
Organizations can configure individual mapping preferences, and users can still make manual choices such as In Office or Remote. A manual In Office or Remote choice remains through ordinary polling until Microsoft Teams reports a genuine Office-to-Remote or Remote-to-Office work-location change. Unknown or unavailable Teams presence does not automatically change an employee's status.
Teams Sense requires the company to configure Microsoft Entra ID SSO, use the same company app registration with Microsoft Graph application permissions, grant administrator consent, and link users through Microsoft sign-in.
Presence.Read.All application permission is required for presence.User.Read.All is recommended for the integration test and user resolution.Requires configured SSO, the Calendars.Read application permission with admin consent, and Calendar Snapshot to be enabled in Staff Glance. It retrieves calendar information on demand only for colleagues the requester is authorized to view and does not store event data. It does not require Teams Sense.
Downloading the Teams App package through Staff Glance requires configured and enabled SSO plus enabled Teams Sense. That download eligibility gate is distinct from the installed Staff Glance personal tab, which opens inside Microsoft Teams and uses your organization's configured Microsoft sign-in. Installing the package does not enable or configure Teams Sense.
SSO is configured per company. It is a prerequisite for Microsoft features but does not automatically enable Teams Sense, Calendar Snapshot, or the Teams App.
Only after an organization separately configures and enables Teams Sense. Teams Sense polls Microsoft Graph on a schedule. The default interval is about 60 seconds and can be configured from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Staff Glance then applies the relevant mapping and conflict rules.
No. The Staff Glance Teams App is a personal tab for opening the hosted application inside Teams. Teams Sense presence polling is a distinct capability with separate configuration and permissions; installing the app does not enable it.
